Marijn van Kreij
* With the exhibition title How to Look Out the artist refers back to his first major institutional exhibition at De Hallen, Haarlem in 2011 in which a huge painted copy of the eponymous satirical art comic by the American painter Ad Reinhardt served a central role. Each printed press release contains a randomly picked fragment from this specific comic.
Marijn van Kreij (Middelrode, The Netherlands, 1978) lives and works in Tilburg and teaches at Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. His artistic practice comprises drawings and paintings on paper, collages, objects, slide projections, videos and sound pieces that are brought together in comprehensive spatial installations. Marijn van Kreij previously showed his works in solo exhibitions in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Haarlem, and London. How to Look Out is his third solo exhibition with the gallery. He was awarded the Dutch Royal Award for Modern Painting in 2013 and the ABN AMRO Art Award in 2016, a prize awarded as an incentive for talent in the Netherlands.
